Star striker bags a hat-trick as Liverpool romp to a 7-2 victory

Clinical finishing and a hat-trick from Kelly Jones saw Liverpool run out 7-2 winners in a feisty encounter with Derby.
The home-side piled on the pressure straight from the off and were rewarded with a goal within the first two minutes of the game. A good corner from Fozzy wasn’t dealt with by the Derby defence, leaving Katie Brusell to nod home the opening goal.
Brusell, who was making her debut after signing from Manchester City, couldn’t have imagined a better start to her Liverpool career.
The first-half saw Liverpool do all the threatening, with Derby only managing two shots on target, both of which were professionally dealt with by Hannah Williams.
Fifteen minutes in Liverpool were given the chance to extend their lead. After some decent work in midfield, Fozzy was through clean on goal, but a good save from the keeper denied the Reds their second of the game.
But they didn’t have to wait long for the next goal. A misjudgement from the Derby goalie allowed Fozzy to nick in behind and roll the ball over the line on twenty minutes.
More chances followed the second goal, with Liverpool finding plenty of space behind the Derby defence. As the first half drew to a close, the home side snatched another goal. Some good work from midfield allowed Kelly Jones to slot the ball in the bottom left-hand corner for Liverpool’s third goal.
Liverpool started the second half piling on the pressure once more. They were rewarded again when, on fifty-one minutes, Fozzy pressured the Derby defence into making a mistake, leaving Kelly Jones to place the ball in the bottom right-hand corner with a cool finish.
The Reds’ fourth goal seemed to knock Derby back to life, as they responded with their first goal of the game. Some nice work from their number 14 allowed Jenny Anslow to nip in and score.
Only two minutes had gone past and the crowd saw yet another goal. Fozzy’s second of the game saw her beat the keeper at her near post. Derby’s half-time team talk seemed to have worked wonders for the team, as they yet again responded with another goal. A corner from the right was nodded in through a crowd of Liverpool players by Marie Wayne.
Derby’s second goal signalled a change on the Liverpool bench. Fozzy was taken off and Sophie Jones came on in her place.
On eighty-one minutes Kelly Jones finished off a good Liverpool move to complete her hat-trick with a collected finish over the Derby goalkeeper. Just a minute later the goalie was picking the ball out of the net again when a quickly-taken free kick caught the Derby defence by surprise and allowed Sophie Jones to blast the ball home for the last goal of the game.
