Beaten by the Clock

Liverpool just missed out to a strong Chelsea team in a thrilling 4th round cup tie.
Chelsea started the better and could easily have been well ahead in the first twenty minutes but somehow Liverpool sustained the pressure and gradually got into the game.
Just after the half hour Liverpool won a corner and ‘Fozzy’ whizzed in a beauty which Katy Williams met with a full blooded header to find the top of the net and open the scoring for Liverpool.
The goal gave Liverpool confidence and little by little the started to match Chelsea.
The second half was more even and with an exceptional work rate being put in by the twins the winning line came into sight. With just a minute of normal time on the clock the ball ricocheted around the Liverpool box, before looping goalward. Vicky managed to get her head to the ball but the linesman flagged it had crossed the line to give Chelsea an equalizer.
Extra time was needed to break the deadlock, with 5 minutes to go Maddie was put through on goal but she was indecisive and her shot was straight at the keeper. Chelsea immediately went onto the attack the cross went behind the forwards but a back heel from Chelsea found its way into the net taking Chelsea into the next round.
Liverpool had given a good performance and had shown they were close to matching the international laden squad of Chelsea.
