Liverpool right back Sam Chappell has been called up to the England squad for the first time in her career.
Chappell will meet up at a training camp with the under-19 squad on November 24th at Bisham Abbey.
The training sessions last for a total of four days, and Sam can’t wait to start. She said: “This is my first time in the proper squad. I got really excited when I was told that I was going to get called up.”
“My parents were really proud, absolutely made up when I told them. My Mum kept phoning me, but unfortunately I was in college at the time, so I couldn’t answer my phone!”
Sam’s been in scintillating form for Liverpool Ladies this season, providing a constant attacking option on the right wing, as well as a collected aura at the back. She is looking forward to progressing in the footballing world and is using this training camp as a push-off point. She said: I’m looking forward to learning new techniques and new methods, obviously its different coaches, so they’ll have a different way of looking at things.”
“Hopefully the lessons that I learn at the camp are ones I can put to use in the Liverpool Ladies squad. We’re on a nine game winning streak at the moment, but there is always room for improvement!”
At just seventeen years old, Sam has plenty of time to keep developing as a footballer, and she is already looking to the future. She said: “One of my long-term aims it to eventually get into the England squad proper. Training camps like these really help me to begin to build towards it because it gives me lots of experience.”
The England Women under-19 squad beat Sweden 2-0 in July this year to lift the Women’s Under-19 Championship title.
